Today John McCain chose Governor Sarah Palin, from a small town in Alaska, as his Vice Presidential candidate. You like everyone else in America, except the 9,000 people of the small Alaskan town where she served as Mayor, may be asking, who the heck is Sarah Palin? Well, since she has only been in the Governor’s office a short time, we don’t know much about her, but what we do know isn’t very encouraging.
We know she opposes marriage equality for LGBT citizens and, according to the Human Rights Campaign “she supports taking away domestic partnership benefits that her state’s Supreme Court has mandated must be available to state employees.” She is also a member of an organization called Feminists for Life, so like McCain, and despite her obvious courting of Hilary Clinton voters, she rabidly opposes a women’s right to choose, and would like to see Roe v Wade reversed. The mother of five children herself, the youngest just a few months old, she is devoted to traditional family values.
Palin has a son in the army getting ready to ship out to Iraq, and she supports McCain’s Iraqi war policy. We know that she is a hunter, loves moose burgers, and we know one other interesting fact, that no other candidate in the race can claim, Palin was runner up in the 1984 Miss Alaska beauty pageant. It seems McCain found the perfect counterpart if he wanted a younger prettier version of himself, but I do not really see Ms Palin as ready to answer that proverbial 3am phone call.
