I was talking to a friend on MySpace recently and he was expressing dismay over the fact that Obama would be as rude as to suggest that Sarah Palin needs more lipstick. The lipstick remark was in reality taken completely out of context, had nothing to do with Palin and is an old political adage. The saying is a metaphor used to indicate a lost cause or a futile gesture, and is meant to convey the idea that a pig will never be glamorous, no matter how well-coifed; and therefore some things are simply beyond salvaging.
Interestingly, and despite the uprising by the McCain campaign, the phrase was so common; it was used in the title of a book penned by Torrie Clark, one of McCain’s top advisors.
One wonders why McCain made such a big deal out of a silly well known phrase taken out of context. This is the same tired deflection strategy employed when Palin and McCain lie about her reformer record or his record on veteran affairs, and then call Obama disrespectful for calling her a liar. Just utter nonsense meant to distract us from the real issues.
The real facts we should be concerned with are that Palin is a neo conservative religious freak who believes in curses, demons, witch craft and faith healing. She is involved with those zealot people form Jesus Camp and Fresh Fire Ministries who are gathering an army of christian warriors to create a theocratic world government, by force if necessary.
McCain is from 5 generations of war mongers; he is reckless, has a horrible temper and unstable temperament, is tied to financial corruption (Keating Five) and is 70+ years old. McCain has a deplorable record on labor, veteran affairs, women’s issues and LGBT issues, as well as most other social issues, and is dedicated to reversing Roe v Wade.
I’m sorry but by contrast the Democrats look like Titans of virtue and I feel they are the only option we have to save this nation. If McCain and Palin win the White House people who are not male, christian, heterosexual, or able to work due to a disability will be left to fend for ourselves, and we may even see the few rights we have now, abruptly taken away.
Heaven on Earth for the republicans and the neo-conservative supporters of McCain and Palin will be as close to hell as anything I could possibly imagine.

You have interesting remarks. You say Sarah Palin is a religious freak but at least she doesn’t deny being a Christian. Obama denies being a muslim and states he is a Christian. Yet he slipped last monday with George Stephanopoulos and said “my muslim faith”. I saw the entire interview and know exactly what context he said it in. Sarah Palin believes in demons. Obama believes in them to. To be either Christian or muslim you can’t not. The US is one of the only countries in the world that has a huge population of people who don’t believe in the “spirit” world. Everywhere else you go it’s common knowledge.
And for the record: If I were to make a comment such as Obama did about lipstick…to Obama…the left would make just as big a deal as the right – possibly more.

Obama is not a Muslim and only an uniformed person would spread such a silly rumor.
As for contextual media attention, if Obama had a teenage black unwed pregnant daughter you can bet the media frenzy would have been double what it was for Palin’s white daughter.
